Advancing Science and AI to improve road safety for all: what a noble mission!

Alexandre Boulch is research scientist at Valeo.ai, our global research center in AI dedicated to automotive applications. Graduate of Ecole Polytechnique, ENS Cachan (now Paris Saclay) and ENPC, this specialist in computer vision, deep learning and geometry procession joined Valeo in 2019.

Portrait of Alexandre, Alexandre, Research Scientist in AI at Valeo.aiMy day to day job is machine learning research for autonomous driving perception. I try to understand what’s in the surrounding of the vehicle based on sensors, like cameras and LiDARs. Most of my time is dedicated to publications in academic journals and conferences. What I like the most in my job, as a researcher, is writing papers and contributing modestly, in my own small way, to the progress of science.

Currently, I’m mostly working on 3D perception of the surroundings of the vehicles. In particular, I work on what we call self-supervised learning. That means we try to train neural networks without annotation of some sort.

Even if our role as researchers may seem highly theoretical, our goal is basically to make driving safer for everyone, everywhere in the world. Valeo products will be used from the most affordable vehicle to the high-end cars, so basically most vehicles in the world. It’s damn motivating.

Like Alexandre, our 200 AI specialists seek to make the most of artificial intelligence applied to cars, for the benefit of cleaner, safer and smarter mobility.
