Road projection, a safe and personalized approach
Light projection on the ground around the vehicle allows automakers to use a distinguishing visual signature and welcomes passengers when they approach. It also provides convenient, safer access to the vehicle in dark areas.
In addition, with the increase of new mobility and therefore of Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), there is further need for communications in order to ensure their safety, during vehicles’ maneuvering for example.

Brand and personalization of the vehicle
Welcome Light provides an enhanced experience through pattern or text projection on the sides of the vehicle. Current solutions are static (one pattern, fixed ). The trend is to evolve towards dynamic lighting, whether one moving pattern or several.
The function offers multiple benefits:
- Premium feeling with a differentiation feature
- Capability for the end-user to select a custom pattern or text for a personalized experience
- Custom message adapted to specific use cases (ex: car sharing)
Enhanced visual of communications and safety for other road users
Extended Signaling: 5,180 pedestrians and 2,160 cyclists are killed each year in the EU1 40% of these accidents happen during a turning maneuver (~60% when involving pedestrians). Increasing visual communication to other road users by projecting information about upcoming maneuvers such as turning or reversing, directly in the field of view of pedestrians is key to better visibility and thus road safety.
Ground projection solutions currently being researched and tested are turn signals and reversing maneuvers. These functions are not yet allowed but regulations are being discussed (China and EU). Such functions are expected to be on the roads in 2023/2024 .
